I’ve Walked Minnesota

My entry for Minnesota state song. (Probably should have buttered up those former governors, though.)

I’ve walked Minnesota on the prairies
West of the town of Luverne
I’ve floated Minnesota on the rivers
Just east of Austin, the place where I was born
I’ve waded Minnesota in the swamplands
In those Twin Cities so fine
I’ve paddled Minnesota ‘cross the sky blue waters
Up on the borderline.
State of farmland, state of pine
State of wonder, state of mind
Minnesota is my longtime home.

I’ve lived other places and enjoyed it
But somehow I ended back here
It could be the sweet corn in the summer
Could be the sauna, or could be Summit beer
Nine miles out of Glencoe I got married
First time in Utah didn’t stick
If you want good apples or a long time lover
This is the state to pick.
State of farmland, state of pine
State of wonder, state of mind
Minnesota is my longtime home.

My brother said “let’s go see a movie”
which one we could not agree
So we did the thing we thought was fairest
We chose a movie that no one wants to see.
We Minnesotans love that kind of logic
That’s how, when voting, we select
It gave us Ventura and it gave us Pawlenty
Can’t wait to hate who’s next. (wonder who I’ll hate next)
State of farmland, state of pine
State of somewhat open minds
Minnesota is my longtime home.
